Rent: Academy 7

By Anne Osterlund

Overview & Description

With a past too terrible to speak of, and a bleak, lonely future ahead of her, Aerin Renning is shocked to find she has earned a place at the most exclusive school in the universe. Aerin excels at Academy 7 in all but debate, where Dane Madousin—son of one of the most powerful men in the Alliance— consistently outtalks her. Fortunately Aerin consistently outwits him at sparring. They are at the top of their class until Dane jeopardizes everything and Aerin is unintentionally dragged down with him. When the pair is given a joint punishment, an unexpected friendship—and romance—begins to form. But Dane and Aerin both harbor dangerous secrets, and the two are linked in ways neither of them could ever have imagined. . . .

Paul S. writes,

Quite an enjoyable and entertaining read I couldn't put down. As an adult reader, I would happily recommend this book for both genders of the YA genre, also attracting a bit of the sci fi / adventure / poly sci crowd. Anne Osterlund's characters are well developed, have great wit, and certainly kept me reading. A great 2nd book for this author. I can't wait to see what she has next in store for us!!

Really liked this book! Characters and setting were really well written. Teens who like adventure scifi or romance are sure to enjoy this one!

I enjoyed this book. Teen/YA Fantasy is a relatively common genre. Teen Sci-Fi is refreshing new. Aerin is a charming character, even if she is a little annoying at times. Dain is a stereotypical bad boy. However the story still felt fresh. The political references are obviously meant to allude to our current situation in Iraq and Afghanistan. At times this felt a little heavy handed, however this was from my adult view point.

The romance was clean, so I would say this book is appropriate for Middle School and beyond. As a parent, I enjoyed it as well. The ending indicates a sequel in the works.
