Rent: Don't Die, Dragonfly (Seer)

By Linda Joy Singleton

Overview & Description

After getting kicked out of school and sent to live with her grandmother, Sabine Rose is determined to become a "normal" teenage girl. She hides her psychic powers from everyone, even from her grandmother Nona, who also has "the gift." Having a job at the school newspaper and friends like Penny-Love, a popular cheerleader, have helped Sabine fit in at her new school. She has even managed to catch the eye of the adorable Josh DeMarco. Yet, Sabine can't seem to get the bossy voice of Opal, her spirit guide, out of her head . . . or the disturbing images of a girl with a dragonfly tattoo. Suspected of a crime she didn't commit, Sabine must find the strength to defend herself and, later, save a friend from certain danger.

Steven T. writes,

Have you ever been given the decision between saving someone else's life and living your normal life? In this fantasy book, Sabina Rose is a psychic who's faced with a tough decision of saving Danielle's life, the new girl with a dragonfly tattoo. She has finally settled into her country styled life with her grandma and her new farm hand, Dominick. In the present time period she's dealing with her emotions as the book is taking twists that lead to a surprising climax.

This book is on the top of my list of favorite books because it was a page turner. I couldn't stop reading it because all and all it was fast paced and the plot was fabulous. The plot had a very intense climax, where you think everything is resolved and another surprising twist pops up. It is a series so there's a major cliff hanger at the end. I personally enjoyed it, but if I were to recommend it, it would be to a more mature audience, only because the ending has a scene that a younger generation wouldn't understand as well. If I were to give an approximate age it would be probably be for thirteen and up. It'd be more enjoyable for people who are into both fantasy, with psychics and spirits, and realistic books. For those of you that are wondering about whether or not the style of writing is good enough or not, it seems as though it was written in a style were almost all ages could read. Though it was descriptive and went into detail, and the author did a fabulous job making the characters rounded and likable. If you find it one day when you don't have anything to do, pick up the book and start reading it, I can guarantee you that you'll at least find it interesting.

DON'T DIE, DRAGONFLY is the first book in Linda Joy Singleton's THE SEER series. If the next books are as good as book number one, this is sure to be one of my favorite book series (earning a place next to books by such fabulous authors as JK Rowling, Tamora Pierce, John Marsden, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, and Scott Westerfeld).

Some problems have caused Sabine Rose to be expelled from her old school, and she just wants her time at Sheridan High to be normal. No more creepy weirdness--namely, having psychic visions. Unfortunately, wishes don't always come true. Her psychic powers are acting up again.

In her visions, Sabine sees a girl with a dragonfly tattoo. These are scary, dangerous visions, and Sabine doesn't know what to do about them. Can she figure it out before it's too late?

This is a very enjoyable novel, suspenseful and full of great characters. Linda Joy Singleton is a great writer! This is highly recommended for anyone who loves a good mystery with a great paranormal element. Book number two in this series is in my to-read stack; I can't wait to get a chance to read it!
