Make It Fast, Cook It Slow is the first cookbook from Stephanie O'Dea, the extremely popular slow cooking blogger: affordable, delicious, nutritious, and gluten-free recipes to delight the entire family.
In December 2007, Stephanie O'Dea made a New Year's resolution: she'd use her slow cooker every single day for an entire year, and write about it on her very popular blog. The result: more than three million visitors, and more than 300 fabulous, easy-to-make, family-pleasing recipes, including:
Breakfast Risotto Vietnamese Roast Chicken Tomatoes and Goat Cheese with Balsamic Cranberry Syrup Falafel Philly Cheesesteaks Crème Brulee
--and much more. Make It Fast, Cook It Slow is the perfect cookbook for easy, quick prep, inexpensive ingredients, and meals that taste like you spent hours at the stove.
I started reading her blog when I stumbled onto it partway through her challenge. Her writing style and sense of humor make it very enjoyable to read. Even though I read her online, as soon as I found out her book was available for pre-order, I ordered five of them - one for me and four to share.
The recipes are delicious and I love her "verdicts".
Right now, I have chicken soup stock going in the crock pot (why didn't I think of that?) so we can all get better from this flu with some chicken soup tomorrow.
This is a great book that makes cooking easy for any busy family. The verdict(what Stephanie's family thought of the recipe) at the end of every recipe is so helpful. This is one cook book you will definitely be using. We are currently trying out recipe number two from the book but look forward to many more.
I have been reading Stephanie's blog for a long time. Her recipes are creative and interesting and have saved me so much time. She's helped me come up with new ideas for dinner when I get sick of making the same thing again and again. The book is great to have so that I can browse through and get ideas without having to have the computer on (especially difficult when my toddler wants to push the buttons.) The recipes are great because they aren't the usual cream of something soup, like some other slow cooker cook books. The variety and versatility is fantastic.
One of the best parts of her blog are the verdicts. It's nice to know all the recipes have really been tried and tested. It's also helpful if you have similar tastes or not, so you can easily pick out which recipes will work for your family. Some cookbooks have pretty pictures, but it's hard to know if they're actually going to taste good. The only thing I miss about the book is her great introductions and commentary on her blog posts. Her writing is very funny and often brightens my day.
I have been sending people to her website ever since I found it, and will highly recommend this book to friends and family.
