Rent: Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis

By Al Gore

Overview & Description

It is now abundantly clear that we have at our fingertips all of the tools we need to solve the climate crisis. The only missing ingredient is collective will.

Properly understood, the climate crisis is an unparalleled opportunity to finally and effectively address many persistent causes of suffering and misery that have long been neglected, and to transform the prospects of future generations, giving them a chance to live healthier, more prosperous lives as they continue their pursuit of happiness.

Our Choice gathers in one place all of the most effective solutions that are available now and that, together, will solve this crisis. It is meant to depoliticize the issue as much as possible and inspire readers to take action—not only on an individual basis but as participants in the political processes by which every country, and the world as a whole, makes the choice that now confronts us.

There is an old African proverb that says, "If you want to go quickly, go alone; if you want to go far, go together."

We have to go far, quickly.

We can solve the climate crisis. It will be hard, to be sure, but if we can make the choice to solve it, I have no doubt whatsoever that we can and will succeed.

Since the publication of the New York Times bestseller An Inconvenient Truth, Mr. Gore has led more than 30 "Solutions Summits" with top scientists, engineers, and policy experts to examine every solution to the climate crisis in depth and detail. Our Choice draws on conclusions developed through those summits as well as on extensive independent research, describing how the bold choices necessary to save the earth’s climate should also be the foundations of policies worldwide to create new jobs and stimulate sustainable economic progress.

Karen J. writes,

This is a creative and useful book on the subject of climate change.

Al Gore has been a true profile in courage since he won the popular vote for President in 2000 but was denied the Presidency. In 2002 he was one of the few leading Democrats who had the courage to oppose Bush's disastrous plans for war in Iraq in a forceful manner.

His actions on global warming have been historic. He truly deserved the Nobel Prize.

I found the best chapters to be Chapters 9 and 10, dealing with forests and soil. How many people know that the third and fourth largest problem nations are Brazil and Indonesia due to their huge levels of deforestation?

Page 210 is a particularly disturbing page. Check it out. Look what happens if the Siberian permafrost gets too warm.

Page 335 is very useful in showing the true value of nature in economic terms.

This is a good book. I would recommend you read it.

Maria A. writes,

Al Gore unfortunately doesn't understand the difference between statistics and science; he also doesn't understand the difference between bias statistics and non-bias statistics. His movie An Inconvenient Truth does more harm than good by confusing the general public about what science is, and actually hurts the environmental movement by stealing much-needed attention away from real environmental issues. To gain a better understanding about what science actually is, I recommend "Science Matters: Achieving Scientific Literacy" by Robert M. Hazen and James Trefil instead of this nonsense.

For those still in denial, like ones in this review section, because they still want to drive 2ton SUV/truck to do nails or grocery shopping for family of 2 - 3, please visit web sites like [climate.nasa.gov/evidence/] as a starter to wake up from fantasy dreams. I can only guess about your particular urges to gorge on everything to satisfy your every desires, believing that Mother Earth will forever supply you (you the chosen ones blessed with I-am-the-center-of-Universe view, because you feel you are So special in the scheme of how the Universe works) with everything you ever need for your comfy super important existence.

[climate.nasa.gov/evidence/] will show you a graph spaning 650,000 years and level of CO2. Hopefully the graph from NOAA will startle you to wake you up from the very nice, self-indulgent dream you have been having. However it is about time you wake up from fantasy and be a responsible member of human race...to be in this point in this time and space since your conception you already have used up truly vast quantities of so much resources of Earth. Time to wake up and be contribution member of society if not for yourself then at least for your children and coming next generations.
