NAMED ONE OF THE TEN BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW A TIME MAGAZINE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR WINNER OF THE IMPAC DUBLIN LITERARY AWARD
Out Stealing Horses has been embraced across the world as a classic, a novel of universal relevance and power. Panoramic and gripping, it tells the story of Trond Sander, a sixty-seven-year-old man who has moved from the city to a remote, riverside cabin, only to have all the turbulence, grief, and overwhelming beauty of his youth come back to him one night while he's out on a walk. From the moment Trond sees a strange figure coming out of the dark behind his home, the reader is immersed in a decades-deep story of searching and loss, and in the precise, irresistible prose of a newly crowned master of fiction.
I bought this book because it was on the top list of best books of 2007, and didn't disappoint me at all!!!!
I think that if it can be said that Sense and Sensibility it's a 'woman's' book, then it can be said that this is a 'guy's' book. But I am a woman and loved it.
The story is simple but entertaining, it's original but not in a fantastic way - but in a very fundamental way: you haven't read a similar one before and it's also told in different way. The style of the book is simple so it's really easy to read.
Conclusion: I really recommend this book.
writes,
This is an introspective trip through the life of an old man choosing to finish his life in solitude. The writing style places you firmly in the scene in a place I've always wanted to know more about, Norway. Although the main character chooses solitude there are plenty of characters and intricate relationships played out. I thought that was skillfully done. I enjoyed the trip.
