Rent: Sisters

By Danielle Steel

Overview & Description

Four sisters, a Manhattan brownstone, and a tumultuous year of loss and courage are at the heart of Danielle Steel’s new novel about a remarkable family, a stunning tragedy—and what happens when four very different young women come together under one very lively roof.

Candy–it’s the only name she needs—is blazing her way through Paris, New York, and Tokyo as fashion’s latest international supermodel. . . .

Her sister Tammy has a job producing the most successful hit show on TV, and a home she loves in L.A.’s Hollywood Hills. . . . In New York, oldest sister Sabrina is an ambitious young lawyer, while Annie is an American artist in Florence, living for her art. . . . On one Fourth of July weekend, as they do every year, the four sisters come home to Connecticut for their family’s annual gathering. But before the holiday is over, tragedy strikes and their world is utterly changed.

Suddenly, four sisters who have been fervently pursuing success and their own lives—on opposite sides of the world—reunite to share one New York brownstone, to support each other and their father, and to pick up the pieces while one sister struggles to heal her shattered body and soul. Thus begins an unscripted chapter of their lives, as a bustling house is soon filled with eccentric dogs, laughter, tears, friends, men . . . and the kind of honesty and unconditional love only sisters can provide. But as the four women settle in, they are forced to confront the direction of their respective lives. As the year passes and another July Fourth approaches, a season of grief and change gives way to new beginnings—as a family comes together to share its blessings and a future filled with surprises and, ultimately, hope.

With unerring insight and compassion, Danielle Steel tells a compelling story of four sisters who love and laugh, struggle and triumph . . . and are irrevocably woven into the fabric of each other’s lives. Brilliantly blending humor and heartbreak, she delivers a powerful message about the fragility—and the wonder—of life.

Betty A. writes,

I have been reading Danielle Steel Books since 1989. I used to wait for the newest release to come out, and buy the $20 something hardcover the day it came out. Then, I realized the horrible truth of Danielle Steel. Same old thing book after book, if the woman is sick, she is pregnant. She makes time go by either fast, or painfully slow. I was searching for something to read, heat wave here in NY, went to the library and picked up "sisters". This book is pure fiction. Perfect sisters, all beautiful with different color hair, (come on) with all high profile jobs, sentences repeated over and over again. The part that really got me was when the sisters were searching for a place to live in Manhattan, and the first place the realtor finds is "perfect", bedrooms for each with King size beds, pink bathrooms, come on! I wish she wrote like she used to, I think she has around 5 books going at once when she is writing, and forgets what she writes. If only the proof reader took out all of these repeat sentences. Waste of time.

Laura S. writes,

Danielle Steel writes about 4 sisters who are completely different in style and personality. Young Candy is a thin and carefree fashion model, Annie is a bohemian artist, Tammy is a TV producer and Sabrina is an attorney. Their differences are unique and funny until one day...just prior to a family cook-out on July 4th, Annie and her mother are involved in a fatal accident. Their mother is killed and Annie is left blind. A blind artist... The sisters rise to the occasion and decide to live together to support handicapped Annie and grieving father. In spite of the difficulties they are able to cope, find love and live happily ever after. A heartwarming story!

Mary T. writes,

The writing is so redundant and dull, I kept thinking it was intended, as part of a tricky plot. I couldn't believe it, I kept thinking it was a parody on superficial, inane, meaningless people and that the dull-witted plot and characters would redeem themselves if I just kept reading. It didn't happen, it was bad the entire, long, boring length of the book. If there was a minus rating, this book would get minus five. Someone should ask Danielle Steel to stop writing books. And anyone who thinks what she writes is good, should seriously consider doing something about their lack of depth and understanding of people, life, and good writing.
