Rent: Stardust

By Neil Gaiman

Overview & Description

Young Tristran Thorn will do anything to win the cold heart of beautiful Victoria—even fetch her the star they watch fall from the night sky. But to do so, he must enter the unexplored lands on the other side of the ancient wall that gives their tiny village its name. Beyond that old stone wall, Tristran learns, lies Faerie—where nothing, not even a fallen star, is what he imagined.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman comes a remarkable quest into the dark and miraculous—in pursuit of love and the utterly impossible.

If you have seen the movie version of this book then you will probably be a bit disappointed. There are alot of differences between the two. Some good some bad. The movie definatly has more action and suspense, especially with the ending. The books ending was nice and romantic but not very exciting. There was no final battle against the witches to save the star. However it was a good read anyway. If you can seperate the book from the movie in your mind (or have not even seen the movie) then you can enjoy the book. Neil Gaiman is a wonderful story teller with the ability to keep you captived thruogh out the story. The world he creates beyond the wall is facinating and steeped in folk lore. I wish he would write more stories in this world. My only complaint against him is that he can be a bit crude and a little over descriptive when it comes to sex scenes. He doesn't go over the top, but this is definatly a story for adults.

This isn't a book for kids. There are few very bloody parts in the book that even I had a hard time with. I guess the story line wasn't bad but I didn't see a reason to make the book so graphic in parts.
