Overview & Description

What if you got another chance at the life that got away?

In an emotional story brimming with wry humor, New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery pens a heartwarming tale of love, family, and a woman's journey of discovery.

L.A. accountant Megan Greene has a successful job, a handsome cardiologist fiancé, and a doting father. Surely they make up for her estranged sister and hypochondriac mother...and a niggling sense that something, somewhere, got lost along the way. But then Megan's life falls spectacularly apart. Faced with the knowledge that neither her father nor her fiancé are the men she thought they were, she is loath to trust Travis -- the high school boyfriend who never quite left her heart. But his reappearance stirs dreams she once reluctantly packed away, and forces her to confront her relationship with her sister -- a bond that has been strained to the limit but has never quite broken. And amid the turmoil lies the promise of a future Megan never expected -- one that may turn out to contain everything she really needs....

Charles B. writes,

I have been one of Susan's fans for a while and will continue to do so. This is a good read but not one of her best. Abusive behavior in many forms appear in this book explaining much. The main charcters are likeable and you want to rout for them all the way. You want to shake some sense into the ex fiance,(who just will not listen) and at times both mothers. I also felt the book ended abruptly. An enjoyable read for a rainy afternoon.

I usually really enjoy books by Susan Mallory, but this one the parents of both main characters are just over the top horrible. Not a single good one in the bunch. The b-plot with her sister was also pretty unbelievable and it seemed like they wasted the best friend who never really got any story. All in all I was very disappointed and will not be keeping this book.

I loved this book from the first word to the last. Travis is truly a hero to fall in love with. The relationships are real and wrought with emotion. I really liked that family problems weren't sugarcoated, everyone didn't just miraculously reform. Megan faced real issues and some got solved and some didn't. That's life. I felt immersed in the story, surrounded by characters that were heart-achingly real. Sunset Bay was a wonderful read. I hope the author will revisit these characters in the future.
