Rent: The Last Summer (of You and Me)

By Ann Brashares

Overview & Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants comes “a glorious novel of unrequited love, longing and the meaning of friendship.”( Adriana Trigiani, New York Times bestselling author of Big Stone Gap and Lucia, Lucia

Riley and Alice, two sisters now in their twenties, and as fiercely different as they are loyal, have spent every summer at their parents’ modest beach house on New York’s Fire Island. Each year, they return to the house and community they have known since they were children—and to Paul, the boy next door. But this summer marks a season of change: budding love and sexual interest, an illness, and a deep secret force all three to confront the increasing complexities of their lives and friendships.

It was a very fast read but not as satifying as her Traveling Pants books. I guess since it was listed as an adult novel, I expected too much. I am not saying it was bad, it was a perfectly fine, beach book. Simple story, simple people, some character developement but not much after that. I was even more underwhelmed by the entire Fire Island location. In the past I have read books that make me feel I could go to the place and find the locations, shop in the stores, smell the coffee. There is nothing that would even make me interested in visiting.

Very nice quick read. Perfect book for a rainy afternoon.

I loved this book. A simple story of two sisters and their best friend- and how childhood relationships change as we grow and age. I found this book to be a lovely, quiet read.
