Very highly recommended for budding young chefs, You're The Cook: A Guide To Mixing It Up In The Kitchen by Katie Wilton is a superbly organized and presented cooking guide for all middle-school aged children. Introducing children to a fun, active, and easy-to-prepare collection of delicious and popular recipes for enjoyable and healthy foods, You're The Cook provides recipes ranging from Berry Salad; Superior Deviled Eggs; and Cheesy Chicken Casserole to Frittata; French Toast; and Yogurt Fruit Shake. You're The Cook is an excellent "beginner's cookbook" for parents searching for a creative and productive introduction to the joy of cooking for their child.

What a wonderful little book! My daughter (11) loves to help me out in the kitchen with little projects, so I bought this book as her first cookbook. We had so much fun trying it out!! Everything is really geared towards her making things on her own (with adult supervision, of course) and she was so proud of her creations! The recipes are simple (and yummy!) and we loved how the illustrations told her step-by-step what to do since she understands better by seeing rather than reading (although there are step-by-step written instructions too.) Sometimes I wish adult cookbooks were as clear and easy to understand as this one, LOL. Anyway, we are really enjoying this cookbook and recommend it to others who want to broaden their kids' cooking skills.

What a find! I have been looking for an age-appropriate cookbook for my 2 "tweens" for a long time. Adrian (11) really loves the Food Network and is often "glued" to the set rather than his video games. Annabelle (14) helps with dinner and uses many of the "tips-and-techniques" that Katie taught her IN PERSON. We live in Andover, MA and the three of us (Katie encourages parents to join in too) were fortunate enough to attend 3 of Katie's classes. We REALLY had a BALL! Her enthusiasm is contagious and her teaching style provides encouragement & support without "talking down" to her students. Many of the recipes that we worked on in her classes are included in her cookbook. I hope that this will be only the "first" of many cookbooks to come....
